Newsplex

MISSION

Newsrooms in the future are going to be different. This simple premise sums up the need for the Ifra Newsplex at the University of South Carolina and explains our mission.

Newsplex was built to help news organizations adapt to a future in which people acquire news and information in different formats and across platforms. It is a laboratory where new techniques and technologies are evaluated.

Newsplex is a training facility used by some of the leading news organizations in the world. It is a classroom and meeting point for academic research.

The mission of Newsplex is to help news organizations and strategic communicators better understand and serve their various audiences and constituencies.

Tomorrow's News Today

Before the opening of Newsplex in 2002, Ifra produced this video, which shows how a news organization in the future might cover a problem in air traffic control.

Though the video is approaching ten years old, its vision of a newsroom that focuses on stories has stood the test of time.

Tomorrow's News Today has been seen all over the world. You can even find a version of it on YouTube in Portuguese!
