
This Web package, was produced at Newsplex by students in Journalism 563, a Maymester 2005 course, taught by Professor Cecile S. Holmes. The course explores applying fiction-writing techniques to nonfiction stories and how to tell stories across multiple media platforms. Jordan Ellis of the Newsplex staff provided essential technical assistance.
Meet The Group
Zane Abbott --A senior majoring in business administration, conducted interviews, shot video and wrote commentary for the package.
Courtney Borton--Wrote the cover page on the definition of homelessness, helped Jon with video for his interview and designed half of the webpage.
Holly Branson--Did primary research and collected pictures of the Salvation Army, interviewed a volunteer and wrote a story from the Salvation Army, and created a time line.
Rahul Chandran-- A graduate student, edited stories and wrote narrative for the package.
Jonathan Cowherd--Interviewed Anita Floyd and Matt Kennell and acquired video for both, took pictures and video of downtown Columbia and Five Points. He made clips for the website and acquired summary information on homelessness.
Elizabeth Gibbons--Interviewed Eddie Gunn, took pictures of Louries and Oliver Gospel Mission, as well as wrote a story on Louries. She also helped edit other stories and was the coordinator of the group.
Meg McNair--Wrote a story on the Oliver Gospel Mission, wrote the credits, and edited online.
Julia Sellers-- A rising senior, reported and edited copy for package.
Mark Sieckman--Interview homeless downtown, wrote a narrative for the people page, and played a critical role in designing the webpage.
Ellen Tweedy--Wrote a narrative, slide and voice of over on Hannah’s House and played a big part in editing other stories.
Tenisha Waldo--Wrote a story and a voice over about domestic violence, helped Elizabeth take pictures, helped with headline creation and played a big role in editing other stories.
