AMBER Alert Scenario-Based Training at Newsplex
The University of South Carolina's School of Journalism and Mass Communications has again been awarded a U.S. Justice Department grant to develop and present 10 one-day training sessions for working journalists, AMBER Alert coordinators, law enforcement officers, and online editors (both print and broadcast). The training is designed to help the media work through specifically-designed scenarios in order to more reliably reach decisions for determining when or if an AMBER Alert should be issued in a particular area.
The training will be conducted at Newsplex in Columbia, S.C., our School's state-of-the-art news facility designed to assist news professionals worldwide. More than 200 media personnel participated in last year's sessions, coming from around the country as well as Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
THE TRAINING AND TRAVEL ARE FREE!
Travel and hotel expenses are covered by the U.S. Justice Department. We provide transportation from the hotel to Newsplex as well as lunch and breaks.
The training begins promptly at 9 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m.
Participants will hear discussions on a variety of topics, including message content, public perception, legal updates, media and law enforcement coordination, as well as scenario-based interactive presentations.
Available Training Dates: April 24, May 28, May 30, June 5, September 9, September 11, September 16, September 18 & September 23
